Stirling Castle in Stirling, Scotland

Stirling Castle is an essential part of any visit to Scotland. This magnificent castle sits atop an extinct volcano and is visible for miles in all directions. Most of the castle dates between 1496 and 1583. Today, the public can visit this castle all year round, seven days a week. Over the course of its history, it has been attacked or besieged at least 16 times. One of the most famous incidents was the violent murder of the eighth Earl of Douglas by James II in 1452. It was also a place where a number of Scottish Kings and Queens resided, were baptised, crowned, or died.
